Christmas Movies for the Whole Family

‘Tis the season to watch the best Christmas movies for kids, with classics like Home Alone and Grinch. Why not plan a family movie night, make some popcorn and cuddle in for a Christmas movie marathon?

HOME ALONE (1990)

This John Hughes classic is a staple in our Christmas movie collection. It has everything a good holiday flick needs: plenty of Christmas spirit, a funny set of characters, and the best decorated house on the block. Plus, an incredible performance from 10 year old Macaulay Culkin!

Synopsis: “An eight-year-old troublemaker must protect his house from a pair of burglars when he is accidentally left home alone by his family during Christmas vacation.”

ELOISE AT CHRISTMASTIME (2003)

“Eloise at the Plaza” book series is a classic beloved by many generations. This Christmas-themed movie adaptation will gift you with the Holiday cheer, no matter what it takes!

Synopsis: “A 6-year-old girl tries to reunite a young woman with a former boyfriend before she marries another.”

HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS (2000)

We love this adaptation of the Christmas classic. Jim Carrey does an incredible job recreating one of the meanest Christmas characters out there, while 7 year old Taylor Momsen steals the show as Cindy Lou Who!

Synopsis: “On the outskirts of Whoville, there lives a green, revenge-seeking Grinch who plans on ruining the Christmas holiday for all of the citizens of the town.”

SHREK THE HALLS (2007)

The Grinch isn’t the only green Christmas monster. In this short, Shrek is back and trying to pull off the best holiday ever!

Synopsis: “This half-hour animated TV special features the Shrek characters putting their own spin on holiday traditions.”

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946)

This movie has been warming the hearts of children and their families for more than 70 years. It’s safe to say that this holiday classic is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Synopsis: “An angel is sent from Heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed.”

ONE MAGIC CHRISTMAS (1985)

We’ll just say this: have the tissues ready for this heartwarming Christmas story.

Synopsis: “An angel must show a mother the true meaning of Christmas. It’s not just presents and materialistic things, but the people she cares about.”

UNACCOMPANIED MINORS (2006)

A story of a group of kids stranded at the airport on Christmas. What else can they do than create their own Christmas celebrations? Spoiler alert: hilarity ensues!

Synopsis: “A group of unaccompanied minors bond while snowed in at the midwestern Hoover International Airport during the holiday season and ultimately create a makeshift holiday themselves.”

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER (1964)

This timeless classic will get your kids into the festive spirit in no time!

Synopsis: “A misfit reindeer and his friends look for a place that will accept them.”

A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS (1965)

Who else to teach the little ones about the meaning of Christmas than Charlie Brown? Yeah, we don’t have a better answer either!

Synopsis: “Repelled by the commercialism he sees around him, Charlie Brown tries to find the true meaning of Christmas.”

HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK (1992)

There’s no place during the Holidays like New York. And the second installment of Home Alone does not fail to show off the city in all it’s Christmas glory, in this hilarious second adventure of everyone’s favourite Kevin McCallister.

Synopsis: “One year after Kevin was left home alone and had to defeat a pair of bumbling burglars, he accidentally finds himself in New York City, and the same criminals are not far behind.”

A CHRISTMAS STORY (1983)

A Christmas classic that both kids and their parents. No surprise that TBS used show it for 24 hours straight!

Synopsis: “In the 1940s, a young boy named Ralphie attempts to convince his parents, his teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun really is the perfect Christmas gift.”
